Local pupils enjoy an exciting, rare opportunity to interview a published author!

It’s really not everyday that a child can come home from school and announce that their day involved interviewing a published author…

For two delighted pupils at Hetton Lyons Primary School, however, this was in fact an impressive story that they could recount to family and friends!

A fantastic opportunity to build interviewing skills

Alice and Noah, who are the Reading Ambassadors at the Sunderland school, spoke eagerly with Jack Pepper about his exciting new book via an online interview.

They were full of enthusiasm as they spoke to the author, who is one of the UK’s youngest commissioned composers and youngest-ever national radio presenters.

An ambassador for national charity Music For Youth, Jack presents for Scala Radio, and both the musical theatre and classical shows for British Airways. He also hosts specials for Magic At The Musicals and has been a BRIT Awards judge for five years running!

It sounds as though Mr Pepper has already enjoyed some phenomenal success, so it’s truly amazing that two North East pupils were able to grab such a special opportunity… and practise their interviewing skills on him!

Chris Zarraga, Director of Schools North East, said: “Congratulations to Alice and Noah for stepping up and doing something so amazing.

“Interviewing anyone isn’t a simple job, let alone such an accomplished person! But it seems you both did a remarkable job and should be very proud of yourselves.”
